Workshop Description: Layers, layers, layers!! This workshop is all about exploring dimension in polymer clay and what better way to create an artist trading card then by adding beautiful layers of handmade polymer clay pieces. ATC’s are transformed into miniature works of art that have a medieval, jewel-like feel. A myriad of mixed media techniques will be covered including rubber stamping into clay, painting, collage and beading. We will push the clay to the max by embedding all sorts of things into it. The cross-over potential for these techniques is limitless. The best part is that you can make as many or as few ATC’s as time permits. Each one can be used to build upon skills and to explore new techniques. In the end you will have unique 3-D ATC’s unlike any you have ever had before! Warning: you may not be able to part with them!
Kit Fee $0
Student Supply List:
- 10 small packages of either Premo or Sculpey III polymer clay. I recommend 2 each of five different colors to see the different effects that can be created. I like the darker colors like brown, purple, alizarin crimson, blue. Try to buy at Michaels when they have their 99. cent sale. You may want to condition some of your clay (like half of them) before coming to class. That just means that you knead the clay into a ball to soften it. Then you can place each ball in a ziplock bag.
- Rolling pin/acrylic roller-even a piece of PVC pipe works
- Rubber stamps-if you have some favorites bring them, I will also be bringing some.
- IMPORTANT: Doo-dads/ephemera- Bring metal findings to embed into clay, charms, beads, small metal frames (volcano arts has great little frames), collage sheets, Milagros, buttons, nails, brads, rhinestones and jewelry pieces to embellish your ATC’s. (see pictures of ATC’s for ideas)
