Portable Shadowbox Shrines- 6 hour class FULL

Workshop Description: Polymer clay is the perfect medium for creating these small, portable, shadowbox shrines. In this technique driven class, students will be making all of the component parts of their shrines by stamping into clay and making personalized tiles that reflect their own personalities. The shrines have a small recessed area where a three dimensional object of significance can be placed. This space also allows for another opportunity to explore additional mixed media techniques. We will cover rubber stamping, painting, embedding, collage, transfers, embossing, shrink plastic, beading and mosaicing. This is the class where you get to use all that stuff you’ve been collecting over the years!
Kit Fee: $10.00 -includes shadowbox frames & white tiles.
Student Supply List:
- 5 packages of a dark color of either Premo or Sculpey III polymer clay. (bring 3 of the same color, the others can be of your choosing) Buy at Michael’s during their .99cent sale.
- A rolling pin or acrylic roller-even a piece of PVC pipe works.
- A small bottle of Weldbond Glue
- Assorted paintbrushes, to include a fine detail brush.
- A small bottle of either gold, silver or copper metallic paint
- Rubberstamps- if you have any favorites you want to use, bring them, otherwise I will bring some with me!
- A small bag or two of commercial mosaic tile (less than an inch in size). These will help fill in some of the areas of your shrine.
- Important: Ephemera and doo-dads! Bring some things like charms, jewelry parts, Milagros, buttons, rhinestones to embed into clay & collage paper to personalize your Icon and make it your own. See pictures on my website for ideas.
Optional:
Bring a small (less than 2 x 2 inches) object to place inside your shrine.
