Dos DADA'S - 6 hour class
$145
Opie & Linda O'Brien

Student Level: all skill levels

Workshop Description:
Most of us have played with dolls in our childhood. we play-acted with and through them and for some of us, the experience helped prepare us for adulthood ... (or not)! well, we're still playing with dolls, but these are full of moxie and spirit and it's that essence that we want to capture, express and share with you. since they are too diversified to present in a single session, we're excited to present them as individual workshops featuring: tin cans ~ wood ~ canvas ~ paper ~ books ~ box constructions ~ gourds ~ and fabric - each combined with lots and lots of mixed media, utilizing myriad surface and attachment techniques unique to the individual series we're presenting. in any case, whatever the series, you'll find all of our dolls to be wild, whimsical, non-traditional and outrageously fun.

This workshop will focus on 2-sided, 2-headed DADA'S aka Double Duty DADA'S. we'll start with a 5" x 7" canvas frame which we'll collage on both sides - burnt offerings style - with papers, inks, paint, gauze, assorte metals, fibers and found materials. one side will have a niche to house an assemblage with the items you will bring, along with a bunch of other interesting doo-dads you've collected over time. Doll parts or found materials that simply remind you of doll parts are fair game and welcome, as ANYTHING goes here... keys, beads, buttons, typewriter parts, gears, watch parts, washers and things that just look cool although you have no idea what they actually are, are just a few ideas to get you going. we're making one 2-sided doll, so don't go nuts with embellishments! we'll also have some cool stuff we've collected from the lake for you to incorporate as well. other techniques include creating a dual-sided head, working with micro-fasteners, wire, screws and other creative attachments and our new favorite material: apoxie sculpt.

Kit fee: $15
Payable to instructor at beginning of class. Kit will include a pre-gessoed frame, assorted papers, gauze, fibers, wood substrate for head, various hardware, screws and nails, inks and more.
